Shri P Goverdhan, former Outstanding Scientist and Controller, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) took charge as Secretary, Atomic Energy Education Society (AEES) on 10th August 2022. Shri Goverdhan obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from University Visveswariah College of Engineering (UVCE), Bengaluru in 1983. He joined the 28th batch of BARC training school in August 1984 and joined Reactor Projects Group at BARC, thereafter Shri Goverdhan in the initial years worked on design and analysis of radiation protection systems for Nuclear Reactors and associated facilities. His major contributions include design of radiation protection systems for Light Water Reactors (LWR), Indian PHWRs and design and development of radiation monitoring systems. He taught shielding design and analysis in BARC Training School as part of Reactor Engineering course. While working at BARC Shri Goverdhan obtained his Masters degree in Human Resource Development Management from Pr. Welingkar Institute of Management, Mumbai University. He was appointed Head Planning and Co-Ordination Division and Secretary TC/TSC, BARC in December 2014 where he contributed towards policy formulation, project management and scientific administration. Shri Goverdhan was given additional charge as Controller BARC in July 2016 which he held till superannuation. As Controller BARC, he was responsible for General Administration of the Centre, Recruitment and Training of personnel, Security Management and Implementation of IT systems. Shri Goverdhan received the DAE Special Contribution Award in 2011 for his work in Nuclear Science and Engineering and is also recipient of group achievement Awards. Post superannuation, he has been serving the Department of Atomic Energy as member of various committees and has joined the Department as Raja Ramanna Fellow on 1st August 2022.
Dr. V. P. Venugopalan

Dr. V. P. Venugopalan, former Outstanding Scientist and Director, Bioscience Group, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, took charge as Chairman, AEES, in the forenoon of 15 Nov 2021. After completing his masters from the Cochin University of Science and Technology, Dr . Venugopalan obtained his Ph.D. from the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa. Subsequently, he did his post-doctoral research (as a DBT Overseas Fellow) at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. In the initial years after joining BARC in 1989, he worked on the operational (biofouling and biofilm) and environmental (thermal discharge from condensers) issues relating to cooling water systems of coastal nuclear power plants in India. Later on, his major contribution was in the area of environmental biotechnology, particularly in development of biological wastewater treatment schemes. His research efforts in the above areas have resulted in more than 150 publications and three patents. For the past several years, he has been serving as a member of the DAE Advisory Committee on Steam and Water Chemistry (COSWAC). As Director of the Bioscience Group, BARC, he focused his attention on the application of nuclear techniques for the development of new crop varieties and preservation of perishable agricultural produce. He is a Senior Professor in the Homi Bhabha National Institute, a deemed-to-be University under the DAE umbrella. As a research supervisor in various universities, he has produced eleven PhDs. After superannuation, he has been serving the Department of Atomic Energy as a Raja Ramanna Fellow.
